Welcome to ‘The Hill”

I selected Prairie View A&M University to conduct my Doctoral studies due to its enriched and welcoming spirit, the legacy and lineage of its historic activities and the intense greatness of this particular program. PVAMU stands for more than just a institution that prides itself on the prime production of productivity in its people., it is a historical landmark that dates back to the very ending of the slave trade here in Texas. On September 22, 1862 President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation as an executive order calling on the Union Army to liberate all enslaved people. This was to have. completion of January 1, 1863. On June 19, 1865 more than two years after the proclamation, Texas was the LAST state to have liberation take place from the hands of wrongful captivity. December 18, 1865 Slavery was officially abolished and the 13th amendment was adopted as part of the United Staes Constitution. Look at the historical reference as it relates to dates. The Alta Vista Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas for Colored Youth was founded on August 14, 1876, roughly 10 years and 2 months after the abolishment of slavery. The foundations of black education were born here on this very land that was once a functioning plantation. A place where people who looked like us had no rights, no liberties or freedoms. We are our ancestors wildest dreams. We are the turning point in a long progression toward true equality. Prairie View is granting me a history lesson and true forms of authentic support that are beyond normal comprehension.
